This postcard is based on Boris Pasternak’s poem “Hamlet”, which has a deeply personal significance for me.
Concept
I did not want to illustrate the poem literally, but to create a space that echoes its mood. The river becomes an image of movement and the inevitability of one’s path; the distant house suggests a destination, memory or a return to oneself; and the vast sky evokes scale, fate and something far greater than an individual. Together, these elements create an almost cinematic, existential space and reinforce the poem’s central themes: the individual’s role, observation, fate and acceptance of one’s path.
Visual Development
The visual direction was developed using references I selected for composition, atmosphere and colour. The main image was created with generative AI from my brief and art direction, then refined and adapted for the final layout.
Print Preparation
The layout was prepared to the printer’s technical specifications. The RGB image was converted to CMYK using the ISO Coated v2 (ECI) print profile. I chose Gmund Used 0 for its texture, which supports the watercolour character of the artwork.
