Virtual Photography

Control

A series of virtual photographs created for the third round of a community screenshot tournament in 2022. With around eleven days to prepare, I used the project as a focused exercise in color correction and grading.

Challenge

At the time, color correction was one of the areas I felt least confident in. The challenge was to create a varied selection while developing a more deliberate and technically grounded approach to color.

Approach

I separated color correction from grading: first balancing and normalizing each image, then using color creatively to shape mood and visual hierarchy. Cropping, composition and aspect ratio were adjusted individually to support each shot.

Tools Used

Software: Affinity Photo • Affinity Designer
Method: Color correction based on techniques by Dan Margulis

Result

The project gave me a more structured post-processing workflow and a stronger practical understanding of color correction. The final series combines environmental shots, character studies, details and graphic compositions with a stronger focus on controlled color and atmosphere.
